Last year, my dad almost bought a car from someone who had claimed he was selling the car for his brother. Because the dude was super sketchy (like, who in the hell carries around a big roll of 100s kept together with a rubber band?) and for whatever reason, his Driver’s License number didn’t match his ID number (in IL, both of these numbers should match).
Later on, we found out that he was selling stolen cars...but since he was stealing crapboxes, rustbuckets, and mechanic’s specials, he was able to do it for a long time without getting caught. At his peak, I saw a “new” car at his “house” every week.
The titles he provided were fakes, and the address on the titles led to an abandoned house. And he never stayed at the house that he kept the cars at either. Apparently the cops got him eventually.
